Loop Glass Canister, Set of 3 is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from The lids smell horribly of some strong chemical. These are beatiful and well priced and I love them except for the unbearable formaldehyde-like odor when the lid is removed from the cannister. I pried the plastic off and discovered the chemical smell was coming from inside the lid...maybe the stain used? I tried all sorts of things to remove the odor, which mostly removed it out of two of them. I plugged up the hole in the wooden part of the lid with silicone ear plugs and put the plactic seals back on. Two are fine, one still has a mild odor.

Will the terrible smell fade?

I saw them online and then found in the store and almost bought them. Luckily I guessed to open the box.. the smell was terrible. It' s glue or plastic, the question is - will this smell ever go away? The package said they are food safe but are they even food usable? P.S. It's a great set for a great price I would gladly buy a couple of them to store pasta and cookies in style :# but with that smell it's just not an option. Bottomline: I wish the manufacturer had made them a couple of dollars more expencive but used a better quality materials :#((

This did not work. I have had these on my counter for a few months and still cannot put anything in them. : ( Really disappointed because I thought the smell would dissipate and threw out the box because I knew I loved them and wanted to keep them and now I am stuck with them.

Food safe?

When I opened the box there was a strong odor of plastic or glue on the lids. I washed them and the smell was still there. So I filled these containers with pretzels, cheese balls and animal crackers. The next day I reached in to get a pretzel and they smelled and had the taste of the plastic seal. So I checked the other two items and they also smelled and tasted like plastic. Is this safe?
Asked by: Tbworth
These canisters are safe for food. The canisters just need to be aired out, as it is just the smell of the plastic rim. We suggest washing them and leaving the lids off to let them air out for about 24 to 36 hours, the smell should go away.
