When I opened the box there was a strong odor of plastic or glue on the lids. I washed them and the smell was still there. So I filled these containers with pretzels, cheese balls and animal crackers. The next day I reached in to get a pretzel and they smelled and had the taste of the plastic seal. So I checked the other two items and they also smelled and tasted like plastic. Is this safe?

Answer:
These canisters are safe for food. The canisters just need to be aired out, as it is just the smell of the plastic rim. We suggest washing them and leaving the lids off to let them air out for about 24 to 36 hours, the smell should go away.

I saw them online and then found in the store and almost bought them. Luckily I guessed to open the box.. the smell was terrible. It' s glue or plastic, the question is - will this smell ever go away?
The package said they are food safe but are they even food usable?
P.S. It's a great set for a great price I would gladly buy a couple of them to store pasta and cookies in style :# but with that smell it's just not an option.
Bottomline: I wish the manufacturer had made them a couple of dollars more expencive but used a better quality materials :#((
