ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born:               1946, San Mateo, California
1976-1979       Brooks Institute School of Photography: Bachelor of Arts Degree
1979-2004       Los Angeles, California: Commercial Product Photographer
2004-Current   Coastal Oregon: Fine Art Photographer

In an attempt to capture the transitory beauty of life and nature, William’s work merges the traditional and digital photographic landscape. “My goal is to create a serene self-expressive image that reflects the wonder and peace found in my experiences in life.  I believe it’s not what’s seen but what’s expressed that makes photographic art”.  William’s photographs are made using digital capture and extensive digital post-production, sometimes combining multiple photographs to create one realistic image.

While working in Los Angeles as a commercial photographer, William stayed connected to his own fine art taking time to photograph in the American Southwest and Europe.  Once he discovered the large format view camera and its capabilities, William decided to pursue a career as a professional fine art photographer.  He embraced both the natural and the manmade landscape and was originally inspired to emulate artists Ansel Adams and Edward Weston.  Today, William Vanscoy is a successful fine art photographer whose work is in collections around the globe.
