I’d like to start off by giving our readers a little insight into YOUR style. Can you describe your home décor style for us?
I don’t necessarily have one single style, so I’m constantly reevaluating my décor! One of my passions has always been to go to flea markets and estate sales. I gravitate towards specific items that I love, not certain styles, and then I work the old in with the new. My home is filled with neutral furniture and pops of color on the walls, in pillows or other decorative accessories. I pick up items all the time and make subtle changes throughout the house. My home décor is always evolving but that’s the way I like it!
How would you describe Kirkland’s Coastal Cottage Collection?
Serene and peaceful. We’ve become a destination for coastal home décor and rightly so—whether beachside living is a lifestyle or just a passion for you, this collection offers items that fit into anyone’s home. With its tonal blues and washed woods, the collection is completely soothing.
What makes Coastal Cottage special?
Our coastal line of décor is one of our longest running collections, but this year it’s been infused with newness like never before. While the baseline of the collection is still blue, you’ll see more pops of color and touches of metallic. It’s these two elements that make coastal décor so accessible nowadays. Whether your home is a casual beach house or a refined seaside retreat, you can find exactly what you need within this season’s Coastal Cottage Collection.
What should our readers know about decorating with coastal décor?
I’d say two things. One, don’t be afraid of coastal icons like anchors, starfish, seashells, and mermaids! Incorporating iconic pieces of coastal décor is a fast and easy way to transport yourself to a coastal state of mind.
And two, don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns or wood finishes. The beach is a collage of colors, textures, scents, and sounds. You can recreate this feeling of mismatched beauty with colored and distressed side tables, patterned upholstered furniture, and accessories inspired by nature, like driftwood candleholders.
Is there an item that you think totally captures the essence of the collection?
Yes! Our selection of coastal art captures the collection’s wide variety of colors, icons, and levels of formality. A great piece of coastal art can do all the work for you! It sets the tone of the room and identifies your color palette. We even have pieces that incorporate key natural elements like rope and driftwood, which are indispensable elements of the seaside look.
All you have to do is pick a piece of coastal art and expand on it in the rest of your décor!
Are there any other coastal decorating tips you’d like to share with our readers?
Humans have a habit of going to the beach for vacation, and for good reason! The soothing rhythm of the ocean helps us forget the hectic rhythm of our daily lives; the sand warms our feet and our hearts; and the never-ending horizon gives us hope for what’s to come.
Whatever you love about the beach, don’t be scared to bring it into your décor! Creating your own coastal cottage is all about YOU!
