You may remember our previous blog post introducing you to Pantone’s Spring 2014 color selection. In this blog, we’ll give you a preview of what to expect for this year’s fall color trends. Pantone’s fall color selection isn’t just for the clothing and accessories; you’ll see these colors being incorporated into home décor on anything from textiles curtains and pillows to decorative accessories.
Elegant shades of purple and red, vibrant blues, and earthy tones define this season’s color collection. Topping the list of fall’s biggest colors is Pantone’s Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid. In the same purple family you’ll find Sangria, Aurora Red, Cognac, and Mauve Mist. Accent colors include Royal Blue, Bright Cobalt, Misted Yellow, Cypress, and Aluminum. Not what you would typically expect to see in the fall, right? Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone Color Institute’s Executive Director said that this season’s selection is “an artful collection of colors and combinations not bound by the usual hues for fall.”
It’s true; these color combinations don’t appear to be traditional in any way, but if you start to look at each color individually, you’ll see hues inspired by the changing of the seasons. Specifically in this blog, we’ll call out Mauve Mist, Cypress, and Misted Yellow.
Mauve is a classic color that works best as an accent. It comes from the purple family so it’s rich in intensity, but it’s a subtle tint. The color would never overpower a room with its color intensity, but mauve conveys a feminine and delicate air. Too much mauve could make the room read as too soft. Try using mauve in a floral arrangement. Our Purple Jasmine Stem or our Lavender Shasta Daisy Bush has brightness to its mauve color to that adds a light touch to your room.

Cypress looks and feels natural, organic, and comfortable. With this shade in your home, you’re going to immediately get a sense of that autumn atmosphere. It’s one of the more traditional fall colors on Pantone’s list so feel free to use it in the traditional ways! Traditional fall décor involves natural floral arrangements and wreaths. Make sure they have an extra special green touch to them.
Similar to mauve, Cypress should be used as an accent. Get cozy on those cool nights with Cypress-colored throw pillows and blankets. Or for something with a little more flair, redecorate a wall with nature-inspired art. Our Evergreen Plantation Framed Art Print has the perfect shades of green and Cypress combined with that rustic, natural look that you generally go for with fall décor.
Misted Yellow perfectly captures the color leaves right before they make their turn and fall from the tree. It’s will fit right in with your traditional fall décor and arrangements. Use this color to add vibrancy and life to your space. You’ll appreciate that pop of color when the sky turns gray for winter.
Love the metallic trend currently making its way into home décor? Look for decorative accessories, frames, or furniture with an antiqued gold finish; antique gold matches Misted Yellow perfectly. Our Gold Scrolled Metal Salaets Plaque is an excellent example of this trend. Color and shine all in one!
Before you know it, you’ll start to feel a nip in the air. You’ll see the leaves start to change bit by bit on the trees. We’ll help you mix and match Pantone’s gorgeous selection of fall colors so you can get your home on trend before the leaves begin to drop.
