First, there was the proposal. It was all kinds of sweet, and everything went off without a hitch. Or maybe it didn’t, and it was charming and memorable for that very reason. Then came the planning, which you managed to survive by the skin of your teeth. You chose your wedding party, handpicking from among your most trusted friends and family members. And now those very people are doing their best to keep you sane until the big day arrives. So how should you show your appreciation? With gifts, of course. But what makes the best bridesmaid gifts? Kirkland’s is here to help.
Your Bridesmaid Gifts: Prepare To Get Personal
For your bridesmaids, your best bet is to make it personal. Make sure each gift is tailored to the individual bridesmaid; don’t just put together a bunch of generic gift bags that could be given to anyone. Each member of your bridal party brings something different to the group, and your gift to her should reflect that.
Bridesmaid Gift Idea #1: Customized Gift Baskets
One great option is to create custom gift baskets for each bridesmaid. Find something she loves, and build a basket around it. Does she love movies? Get a refillable popcorn bucket with ticket vouchers and theater-sized candy. Music lover? How about a pair of new headphones and a gift card to her preferred online music store? Love to read? Find a selection by her favorite author (or a genre you know she would like) plus a coffee mug or a gift card to her favorite coffee house. Know a DIY queen? Give her one of our woven baskets with some of her favorite crafting supplies.
Bridesmaid Gift Idea #2: Bridesmaid Survival Kit
Another option is a bridesmaid survival kit. This kit can include all sorts of things that you think your bridal party might need on the big day. You can do two different routes with this one. The practical kit would include things like hair accessories, static remover, mints, and spot removing wipes. A kit geared a little more toward pampering could include pajamas, a nice robe, scented lotions, bath and body products, and maybe even a scented candle or two. Our advice? Do both. The practical side is a nice way to help them prepare for the day, while the pampering side is a way to show them you appreciate their support. Again, try to tailor each kit to a different bridesmaid; the personal touch is important.
Bridesmaid Gift Idea #3: Skip The Basket
Speaking of personal touches, why not look at monogrammed options? Kirkland’s has a wide selection of totes and pillows with scripted initials. Or, for an inexpensive yet super-personal gift, you could get each bridesmaid a personalized picture frame (4) filled with a snapshot of a favorite memory.
Bridesmaid Gift No-No’s
While your wedding party will probably be happy with anything you give them, there are definitely some things that could lead to some slightly disappointed faces. In particular, try to stay away from one-time-use items—you know, like the kinds of things they will only be able to use for your wedding. As much as you might want everyone to match perfectly, giving them all matching jewelry to complement a dress they will probably only wear once may not be your best option for bridesmaid gifts. Ditto goes for fun, whimsical items like t-shirts that say things like “Bridesmaid.” Both are the kind of gifts that say, “Remember, this day is all about me,” and that’s not the point of giving bridesmaid gifts. This is for them . . . so do it for them!
